How UF Health Ended a Special Forces Veteran’s Long Fight With Traumatic Brain Injury
UF Health Jacksonville helped Bryan overcome a TBI from a paratrooper jump that plagued him for 40 years.
After multiple combat tours with Army Special Forces, Bryan understood adversity. However, a traumatic brain injury from a paratrooper jump stayed with him long after his service. He experienced headaches, memory lapses, difficulty communicating and trouble with his balance. At the UF Health Jacksonville Leon L. Haley Jr., MD, Brain Wellness Program, Bryan found a team helping veterans and first responders facing traumatic brain injuries. By participating in a personalized outpatient program, UF Health specialists helped him improve his communication, balance and confidence. Today, Bryan feels more secure, more focused and more connected to those around him. Now, with the birth of his first grandchild, his next mission comes with a much smaller pair of boots.
